Run of the Mill is the creation of local parents Helen and Mark. As parents of young children themselves, they became aware of the lack of exciting play centres in the area. Not only that, but as a Chef, Mark was also aware that there was a serious lack of facilities that offered good quality food for all the family.

In a search for premises that took over a year, they found the site at Pear Mill in autumn 2006. At almost 10,000 square feet, located in the fantastic Grade II listed building, the site offers everything that they wanted. Housed within a building which offered complementary businesses, easy access, ample parking and 24-hour manned security, it was the ideal location for their venture.

The design
The design of the play structure has been a process that has evolved over a year of planning, with numerous visits to other play centres far and wide as well as questionnaires given to friends and like-minded parents. With a focus on exercise as well as fun, Helen and Mark have worked with the UK market leader in play equipment design. They have chosen a play frame that makes optimum use of the space in the building and have also chosen elements of design that allow children to maximize the amount of activity from a visit. Rather than just “scramble up to a big slide”, Run of the Mill’s play frame has been designed to include a wide variety of modules of play that will allow children to climb, jump, squeeze, roll, swing, bounce as well as slide!

The little ones haven’t been forgotten either. In their research of other play centres, Helen and Mark found that the facilities for babies and toddlers were usually limited, if present, and decided to address this in their design with a dedicated toddler play area. Specifically designed for the under 4’s, the little ones can play on their own mini play frame, away from the bigger visitors if they wish! Furthermore, designed to keep the tiniest of visitors happy, the Baby Playpen will allow babies to crawl, roll and move around whilst safe in their own exclusive area.

The Grown-ups
As busy parents themselves, Helen and Mark also wanted to provide a comfortable haven for the adults to relax, unwind, chat and make the most of their time, whilst their children enjoy themselves. The adult areas provide comfortable leather sofas and the latest magazines and newspapers. The ample restaurant area sits in direct view of the play equipment, allowing you to sample a coffee or something delicious from the menu, safe in the knowledge that your children are easily visible.

Run of the Mill’s aim is to provide a high quality Play Centre combined with a family restaurant serving healthy, freshly prepared food for all the family.
